Join to apply for the Dam Safety Engineer/ Subject Matter Expert role at HDR.
HDR is seeking experienced Professional Engineers in various disciplines to join our Hydropower Practice across the country. We are industry leaders in dam safety, performing FERC Part 12 Dam Safety Program assessments, including Comprehensive Assessments (CAs) and Periodic Inspections (PIs). We are looking for Subject Matter Experts in Civil, Hydraulics/Hydrology, Structural, Geotechnical, Geological, and Mechanical engineering.
Primary Responsibilities- Support inspections and assessments of dams and water retaining structures.
- Conduct analyses, evaluations, and designs; develop options or recommendations with supporting calculations.
- Prepare contract documents, including drawings, specifications, design documentation, criteria, and cost estimates for hydraulic structures.
- Perform engineering tasks requiring critical thinking and creativity, often with limited code guidance.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on hydropower and dam safety projects.
- Work independently as project engineer, providing oversight, QA/QC, and mentorship.
- Participate in risk assessments for dams and hydraulic structures.
- Travel may be required.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Geological, or Geotechnical engineering.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience with dams, water conveyances, or related infrastructure, especially regulated by FERC.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Micro Station.
- Strong communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in teams.
- Experience in the hydropower industry, including FERC dam safety processes, design, and assessments.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- At least 7 years of related experience.
- Minimum 2 years of project management experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with MS Office and MS Project.
- Leadership skills.
