Mount Rainier National Park protects over 236,000 acres centered on Mount Rainier, an active stratovolcano and the most glaciated peak in the contiguous United States. The park provides opportunities for visitors to experience diverse ecosystems, glaciers, wildflower meadows, and significant natural and cultural resources.
The Interpretation Member will primarily assist interpretive staff at the Jackson Visitor Center at Paradise and the Longmire Museum k will be conducted in Longmire, Paradise, and surrounding areas.

Position OverviewThe applicant assists seasonal and permanent interpretive staff with visitor education, conservation messaging, visitor services, and safety. This role emphasizes high-quality public contact, winter recreation awareness, and stewardship of park resources.
The member will gain hands-on experience in interpretation, visitor center operations, winter safety, and National Park Service operations while working in dynamic winter conditions.
Major duties include:
- Operate visitor centers and information stations by providing information on park resources and facilities, responding to visitor inquiries, and supporting daily visitor services operations.
- Assist with wilderness permit station operations and educate visitors on wilderness regulations, safety, and Leave No Trace practices.
- Learn about Mount Rainier's natural and cultural resources through training, research materials, and collaboration with park staff to support interpretive programming.
- Provide informal and roving interpretation by engaging visitors on trails and in visitor use areas and promoting resource protection and stewardship.
- Develop and present formal and informal interpretive programs and products, which may include orientation talks, guided walks, youth programs, curriculum-based education programs, and digital content.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, safety training, and cross-divisional shadowing while supporting safe operations and, as needed, operating government vehicles.
The applicant will also throughout their time at MORA will be able to shadow other divisions to get an overall view of how the park functions.
This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.
ScheduleThe schedule for this position will be 40 hours/week, 8 hour days with lieu days mid-week. Weekend and holiday work is expected
Position BenefitsLiving Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $675/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing: ACE members will be accommodated in provided housing at no cost for the duration of the term.
Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service and 640 hours of service. If the duration of a PLC-eligible term is not long enough for Members to accrue 640 hours of service (~16 weeks), the total hours served at the completion of the term may be eligible to be combined with hours accrued from another PLC-eligible term to meet the 640 hours requirement.
