Ocean Shores Fire Department - Entry Level Firefighter Paramedic Testing

All Candidates: are required to complete the Personal History section with PST.

Lateral Paramedic:
Candidates are not required to take a written PST exam or a PST CPAT. Qualified candidates will be invited to attend an Oral Board Interview.

Entry Level Paramedic:
Candidates will be required to take a written PST exam that must have been taken within the last 12 months. Qualified candidates will be invited to attend a Practical skills evaluation assessment along with an Oral Board interview.

After successful completion of the initial testing process, eligible candidates will be invited to a Chief’s interview. A background investigation, psychological testing, and medical exam will take place after a conditional offer of employment.

Veteran’s Credit may be available. If requesting Veteran’s Credit, please submit a DD214 Form prior to confirmation of attending an Oral Board/Practical Assessment.

• Written Examination:
  Required. Lateral candidates are NOT required to take a Written test. Entry Level candidates ARE required to take a written PST test and pass with 70% or higher.
• Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT):
  Required as described below. Proof of successful completion of CPAT conducted by Public Safety Testing or National Testing Network within the previous 12 months, or prior to invitation to oral board or practical exam.
• PST Personal History Statement:
  Required within 7 days of passing required exam(s).
• Minimum Age: 18.
• High School Graduate / GED:
  Yes.
• Driver’s License:
  Required. Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
• Felony Conviction(s) as an Adult:
  None in the last ten years.
• English Language Proficiency:
  Ability to Read, Speak & Write English.
• Vision Requirements:
  Must pass vision exam as part of medical examination.
• Paramedic Certification:
  Must have current Washington State EMT-P Certification.
• CPAT Score:
  Multiple scores from the same applicant – we consider the highest score received within the past one year. Scores are requested on an as‑needed basis as vacancies occur.

• Driving:
  Potential disqualifier – we will review driving record.
• Drug Usage:
  Potential – no convictions, others considered on individual basis.
• Criminal Activity:
  Potential – no adult felony conviction within the past ten years. Adult misdemeanor convictions will be carefully reviewed. Automatic disqualifiers: unlawful sexual misconduct; no outstanding warrants or charges pending in a criminal court; lying during any stage of the hiring process; falsified application or other forms during hiring process. Other potential issues include failure to pay income tax or child support, current credit accounts or unresolved accounts in collection will be reviewed.
• Employment:
  Potential – will review terminations or leaving employer in lieu of termination. Automatic – dishonorably discharged from armed forces, lying, falsification, etc.
