Location: Joint Base Lewis McChord
Duties
* Works jointly with the Installation Range Officer and Range Operations Officer in the planning, development, and execution of safety programs.
* Manages the Range Safety Program.
* Ensures that installation range safety requirements are adhered to in the scheduling of range use, maintenance, modification, and installation of ranges, and use of training facilities.
* Advises Commanders and Unit Training Officers on current and anticipated future policies, objectives, and programs as they pertain to range facility operations. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* Incumbent is required to regularly enter the Installation Live-Fire Impact Area in the performance of assigned duties.
* Performs duties on an irregular tour of duty subject to intermittent 24-hour/seven day scheduling of work activities in order to conform to Range Training Schedules and construction and refurbishment activities.
* Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain Level 2 DA Range Safety Certification.
* Position requires a valid, State-issued motor vehicle driver's license.
* Position requires a pre-employment physical and annually thereafter.
* This position has been designated as Mission Essential.
* Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance Level.

Experience:
Have one year of specialized experience which includes the following. knowledge of range safety regulations, and the experience to plan, develop and execute the programs, policies and procedures involved in the safe operation of live fire ranges and training areas. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

* Resilience Time in Grade Requirement:
Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Additional information
* Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
* You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
* This position requires a 1 year trial period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. * Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
* Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 5 years by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
