Deputy Chief of Prevention

The City of Airway Heights Fire Department is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of Deputy Chief of Prevention. The Department serves a total population of approximately 12,120 year-round residents and operates from one station staffed by 4 career chief officers, 7 career firefighters, and 20 volunteers. The salary range for the Deputy Chief of Prevention position for 2027 is $100,130 - $119,560 plus an excellent benefits package.

You are eligible for benefits the first of the month after hire date. The City offers medical insurance, dental insurance, and life insurance. The City pays up to $1,591.00 towards your benefits, pays for the employee's dental coverage, and contributes $500 per month to a VEBA account or may be used to offset dependent insurance premiums. The City offers enrollment into the LEOFF 2 retirement system, an optional Deferred Compensation Plan, and optional pre-tax AFLAC programs.

You will receive 8 hours of vacation and 10 hours of sick time per month. The City also offers 13 paid holidays and 4 personal holidays. You will receive a clothing allowance of $1,500 per year after your first year.

Required Experience and

Certifications:

A minimum of five years of fire and EMS service in a similar or larger sized organization. Current certification as a Washington State EMT-B or National Registry EMT-B. IFSAC/Pro Board Firefighter II, IFSAC/Pro Board Fire Officer I, IFSAC/Pro Board/NFPA/ICC Fire Inspector I. Must possess or obtain a valid state issued driver's license.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain the following certifications within one year of appointment: ICC Fire Inspector II, ICC Fire Plans Examiner, IFSAC/Pro Board Fire Officer II. At the discretion of the Fire Chief, may also be required to obtain IFSAC/Pro Board Fire Instructor I, IFSAC/Pro Board Fire and Life Safety Educator I, and NWCG Firefighter II.

Assessment Center Testing will be held on October 14, 2026 and a Fire Chief's interview will be held on October 19, 2026.
