Ocean Shores Fire Department - Firefighter EMT Requirements

• Written Examination (required)
• Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) (required)
  • Proof of successful completion of CPAT conducted by Public Safety Testing or a verifiable CPAT within the previous 12 months.
• PST Personal History Statement (required within 7 days of passing required exam(s))
• Minimum Age 18
• High School Graduate or GED (required)
• Driver's License (required)
• Felony Convictions as an Adult – No felony convictions within the past 10 years.
• Felony Convictions as a Juvenile – No felony convictions within the past 10 years.
• Ability to read, speak, and write the English language (required)
• Vision Requirements – Must pass vision exam as part of medical examination.
• Veterans Preference Points (applicable)
• EMT Certification – Must have Washington State EMT Certification and the ability to practice in Grays Harbor County, WA.
• Firefighter 1 Certification (required)
• Firefighter 2 Certification (preferred)
• Prior Firefighter Experience – Preferred, at least two years.
• Prior EMT Experience – Preferred, at least two years.

• Driving – Potential. Will review driving record.
• Drug Usage – Potential. No convictions; will consider other factors.
• Criminal Activity – Potential. No adult felony convictions within the past 10 years. Potential. Adult misdemeanor convictions will be carefully reviewed.
  Automatic Unlawful sexual misconduct.
  Automatic No outstanding warrants or charges pending.
  Potential Review other factors.
• Employment – Potential. Will review terminations, or leaving employer in lieu of termination. Potential. Will review dishonorable discharges.
  Automatic Lied during any stage of processing.
  Automatic Falsified application or related documents.
  Potential Review other factors.
• Financial – Potential. Will review failure to pay income tax or child support.
• Financial – Potential. Current credit accounts or unresolved collection accounts will be carefully reviewed.
