Behavioral Health Student Assistance Professional

Are you passionate about helping and supporting teens in school and want summers off? The Behavioral Health Student Assistance Professional (BHSAP) has the unique opportunity to develop positive relationships with students and provide prevention and early intervention services to promote students' mental wellness. The BHSAP provides individual and group counseling support to students impacted by mental health issues and trauma. You will also have an opportunity to be part of a unique team of professionals who meet weekly to support one another and come together for professional growth and to network with one another.

The job of behavioral health student assistance professional is done for the purpose of providing leadership and assistance to school districts in the development of comprehensive programs in behavioral health support and intervention, counseling, and case management. This position will serve Nine Mile Falls School District. This position is 7.5 hours per day, Monday-Friday, for 190 days following the typical school schedule.

This position will begin in August of 2026 with a specific start date to be determined.

Functions
  • Collects and evaluates data for the purpose of improving school climate and student success.
  • Collects and interprets data for the purpose of determining appropriate programs for implementation and referral.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team (MDT) to facilitate referral and coordination of supports.
  • Conducts screening, monitoring, and follow up for students referred from MDT.
  • Consults with parents, staff, and community agency personnel for the purpose of developing intervention goals and coordinating service plans.
  • Coordinates a variety of activities (e.g. student assistance program, etc.) for the purpose of providing continuity of services for students, in and out of school, to promote success.
  • Facilitates educational groups for identified, at-risk students for the purpose of alleviating isolation, coping with anxiety, identifying support resources, enhancing coping skills, etc.
  • Maintains individual student records and files (e.g. evaluations, screenings, reviews, intervention, student recovery, reintegration programs, etc.) for the purpose of compiling and documenting activities in compliance with program evaluations.
  • Monitors students' grades and attendance for the purpose of evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. case notes, statistical reports, pre/post follow-up, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Presents educational information to school staff, students, and parents on behavioral health topics, for the purpose of increasing awareness and responsiveness within both the school and the community.
  • Provides follow-up and aftercare to students who have been referred to outside services for the purpose of assisting in transition and functioning.
  • Provides individual and group counseling and support to students and families for the purpose of improving functioning and meeting of identified goals.
  • Provides technical assistance in establishing comprehensive intervention programs for the purpose of delivering services in conformance with ESD objectives.
  • Attends meetings as identified with the BH ESD COVID response team.
  • Performs related duties as assigned. Related duties may not specifically be listed but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's classification of work.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

  • applying assessment instruments,
  • operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications,
  • preparing and maintaining accurate records/case management, and
  • utilizing group presentation skills.

Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios, read technical information, compose a variety of documents, facilitate group discussions, and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes:

  • generally accepted mental health and substance abuse assessment, intervention, treatment, and recovery process for adolescents and families,
  • behavioral health counseling and prevention,
  • physical and emotional development of adolescents,
  • and mental health issues.

Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and events, gather, collate, and classify data, and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances, work with data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using defined methods.…
