The Washington State Department of Corrections seeks a highly motivated and qualified Psychologist 4 to provide oversight of mental health services at the Clallam Bay Corrections Center. The Psych 4 will supervise mental health staff at all custody levels, implement performance measures, and provide direct therapeutic services to incarcerated individuals.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide oversight of mental health services for all custody levels housed at CBCC: close, medium, and maximum custody, including ITP, RHU, and IMU.
- Directly supervise five mental health professionals, including assigning tasks, conducting monthly supervisory conferences, and facilitating clinical staff meetings and in‑service training.
- Complete employee performance evaluations in accordance with financial management, human resources, collective bargaining agreements, and DOC policy.
- Interview and recommend new employees for the mental health unit.
- Develop procedures to improve the functioning of the mental health department.
- Facilitate cooperation and teamwork with mental health staff and CBCC/DOC staff.
- Oversee quality of service provided by mental health staff, integrate the Department’s functions into the overall operation of the institution, and perform diagnostic, treatment, and training functions.
- Provide or facilitate group and individual counseling or psychotherapy, psycho‑educational intervention, and chart reviews.
- Provide mental health coverage to inmates in psychological/psychiatric or behavioral crisis, including assessment and recommendation for disposition.
- Respond to emergent situations within the facility as directed by program managers.
- Complete formal assessments through clinical interviews, mental status examination, psychological tests, techniques, and review of records. Document and distribute results as appropriate.
- Provide or direct training of CBCC staff in suicide prevention and appropriate staff response to inmates in crisis or experiencing decompensation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- One year of postdoctoral psychology experience.
- License to practice psychology in the state of Washington.
- At least one year of experience independently developing resource links for client needs within institutions and/or the community.
- Three years of postdoctoral experience, including one year experience in forensic psychology.
- One year of experience working with mentally ill individuals in a maximum‑security facility.
