Health Record Technician 1 (RHIT Certified)

Full Time, Permanent

Hourly Salary: $22.56 - $30.29

Clallam Bay, Washington

Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the Health Record Technician 1 at the Clallam Bay Corrections Center (CCC). This full‑time, permanent position is Monday‑Friday day shift.

Duties

Disclosures, Dissemination, and Procurement of Health Information

  • Review and process patient record requests within 15 working days.
  • Review and process staff requests in accordance with record procedures.
  • Make determinations to allow or deny requests under RCW 70.02 and federal laws.

Health Record Management

  • Ensure patient records comply with departmental policies, state and federal statutes.
  • Serve as an active member of the Health Record Management Committee.

Health Record Department Lead

  • Provide instruction, assign, check, and correct work of clerical staff.
  • Communicate performance of the department with the Health Services Manager and Health Records Technician 2.

Perform Formal Health Record Audits

  • Review records for deficiencies.
  • Complete required audit forms for Permanent Facility and Reception Center.

Technical Assistance and Direction

  • Assist facility staff with health records, disclosure, and statewide processes.
  • Represent DOC in court regarding health records.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months and maintain during employment.
  • Valid driver license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in Health Information Management.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, national standards, and department policies regarding health records.
  • Experience working in a correctional facility.
