Job Summary

The Telemetry Technician is responsible for continuous monitoring and surveillance of telemetry patients, recognizing and reporting rhythm changes and potentially life‑threatening arrhythmias to the Registered Nurse according to established protocols.

Responsibilities
  • Continuously monitor patient cardiac rhythms and physiological parameters.
  • Observe, document, and correctly interpret cardiac rhythms.
  • Recognize rhythm abnormalities and promptly report concerns to the RN.
  • Operate monitoring equipment correctly and troubleshoot when necessary.
  • Identify and respond to monitor alarms and emergency conditions.
  • Maintain composure and communicate effectively in high‑stress situations.
  • Utilize office equipment such as fax machines, scanners, copiers, telephones, and computers.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all electronic and paper communications.
  • Answer phone calls and direct inquiries to the correct resource.
  • Accurately document the initiation and discontinuation of patient monitoring.
  • Follow proper procedures for managing patient records and ensuring confidentiality.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Organizational Responsibilities

All employees are expected to adhere to Summit Pacific behavior and patient experience standards, comply with policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines, and act in an ethical, professional, respectful, and collaborative manner.

Required

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a Telemetry Technician or ECG interpretation course preferred.
  • One to two years of work experience.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant in a patient care setting preferred.
  • Telemetry Technician experience preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Certified Nursing Assistant license required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in ECG rhythm interpretation and pass the exam.
  • New telemetry technicians will be enrolled into a Summit Pacific Medical Center approved telemetry course; they will have 3 weeks to complete the training and successfully pass the exam from the date of hire.
