Job Summary
Peace Island Medical Center in Friday Harbor, WA seeks a Medical Technologist (Certified) or a Medical Laboratory Technician (Certified) for a full‑time, 1.00 FTE, night shift (Tuesday through Friday, 17:45–04:15, with on‑call). Salary ranges: $41.60–62.39 per hour for a Medical Technologist; $34.67–52.00 per hour for an MLT. Key Responsibilities- Perform complex laboratory procedures and tests (blood bank, chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology) using established protocols.
- Evaluate specimens, apply testing criteria, and ensure quality through monitoring, troubleshooting devices, and correcting anomalies.
- Conduct waived, moderate, and high‑complexity tests while maintaining detailed records and laboratory documentation.
- Maintain equipment and tools; perform routine calibration, quality assurance testing, and routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
- Assist supervisors or technical specialists with the evaluation of new methods and procedures.
- Consult with clinicians, supervisors, and other caregivers on test results, protocol requirements, and testing procedures.
- Provide direction and guidance to phlebotomy and specimen management teams, assist with orientation of new caregivers and students, and assess competencies.
- Participate in departmental in‑services, continuing education, competency assessment, and proficiency testing activities; provide support for CAP, HIPAA, and related compliance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff or the Laboratory Medical Director.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biological Science, or an equivalent science discipline.
- Qualified as a Medical Technologist under CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
- Preferable completion of an accredited laboratory training program; program/institution must be accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency.
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience performing high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory (new graduates considered).
- Certification: ASCP, AMT, AAB, or equivalent (e.g., ASCPi, CSMLS) required upon hire.
- Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technician from an accredited laboratory training program or an equivalent education as defined by CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
- Program/institution must be accredited by a regional or national accreditation agency.
- Minimum 2 years of experience performing high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory (new graduates considered).
- Certification: ASCP, AMT, or equivalent required upon hire.
