Job Summary:

The Radiology Clerk supports the goals of the Radiology Department while assisting departments throughout the hospital and clinic. This role requires a self-motivated individual who can work with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include maintaining images and patient accounts in PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System); assembling and analyzing inpatient and outpatient medical records; releasing medical information and films in accordance with state and federal regulations;

supporting medical staff with medical record completion; responding to visitor requests for information or films; and accurately filing medical records.

  • Clinical Personnel:
    Strictly adheres to standard precautions by adhering to the usage of personal protective equipment when handling blood or body fluids.
  • Non-Clinical Personnel:
    Washes hands and other skin surfaces with soap and water thoroughly and often in an effort to control spreading of germs within the department and facility.
  • Adheres to isolation procedures at all times as applicable.
  • Adheres to the following environmental care standards.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of safety policies and procedures, the use of MSDS sheets, hazardous material procedures, and safety codes.
  • Respond appropriately to any Codes while working any shift (Code Blue, Code Gray, Code Silver, Code Amber, Code Red, Code Orange, and Rapid Response Team).
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of security issues, i.e. personal protection, protection of personal and hospital property.
  • Participates in quality initiatives as needed.
  • Be familiar with and comply with the Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic Personnel Handbook and Policies.
  • Be familiar with the collective bargaining agreement (Union Contract) of the UFCW
    3000 and Mid-Valley Hospital.
Essential Job Functions
  • May assist with scheduling imaging exams which include: CT, US, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Fluoroscopy, and general radiology procedures.
  • Understands required patient preps for all radiology exams that are scheduled.
  • Explains radiology exams to patients and answers questions they may have.
  • Arranges for patients to pick up needed supplies, such as BE prep kits or CT oral contrast
  • Maintains patient confidentiality while interacting with public, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Makes CD'S and telerading images to appropriate outside facility.
  • Responsible for reception duties; answering phone, taking messages, paging overhead, and transferring calls as needed.
  • Responsible for film control duties; requesting/pushing images, merging images
  • Keeps office stocked with clerical supplies and radiology forms.
  • Continuance of care information release/film transfer
  • Release Legal, personal information/film requests
  • Track and manually send reports that were not automatically sent to the ordering provider
  • Merge Patient accounts in Pacs to match account in Cerner
  • Oversee the Lung cancer screening program.
  • Track mammography follow up exam recommendations based off of the Radiologists report and request…
