The Medical Assistant for the White Swan Health Clinic supports healthcare providers in delivering quality, patient-centered, and culturally responsive care to Yakama Nation members and the community. Performs both clinical and administrative duties to support daily clinic operations, including assisting with patient care, rooming patients, recording medical information, scheduling appointments, answering phones, greeting patients, maintaining patient records, and supporting provider needs.

The Medical Assistant is also responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming clinic environment by preparing exam rooms, restocking supplies, disinfecting patient care areas, sweeping, mopping, and bagging up garbage as needed. Strong communication, professionalism, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work respectfully with patients, staff, and the public are essential to this role.
Examples Of Work Performed- Greet patients and visitors in a professional, respectful, and welcoming manner.
- Answer incoming telephone calls, take messages, route calls appropriately, and respond to general patient inquiries.
- Schedule patient appointments, confirm appointments, assist with check-in and check-out, and coordinate follow-up visits as directed.
- Verify patient information, insurance information, contact information, and reason for visiting.
- Room patients and obtain accurate vital signs, medical history, medication information, allergies, and chief complaint.
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring rooms are clean, disinfected, properly stocked, and ready for patient care.
- Clean and sanitize exam tables, counters, equipment, and other patient care areas between visits and at the end of the day.
- Perform general clinic cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, wiping down surfaces, and bagging up garbage as needed.
- Assist with wound care, specimen collection, suture removal, EKGs, basic laboratory testing, and other clinical procedures as directed by the healthcare provider.
- Administer immunizations, medications, and injections under the supervision and direction of a licensed healthcare professional and within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
- Perform phlebotomy and process lab specimens as needed.
- Assist with sterilization of instruments, autoclave use, and maintenance of infection control standards.
- Maintain medical equipment, ensure equipment is clean and functioning properly, and report equipment issues to the supervisor.
- Manage and update patient medical records, ensuring accurate documentation and data entry into the electronic health record system.
- Process referrals, assist with obtaining records, and coordinate patient follow-up care as directed.
- Provide patient education on health maintenance, medication adherence, chronic disease management, preventive care, and provider instructions.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA, infection control protocols, safety guidelines, and clinic policies.
- Assist with inventory management, ordering supplies, stocking exam rooms, and monitoring medical supply levels.
- Support daily clinic operations by assisting providers, nurses, front desk staff, and other team members as needed.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, Tribal Health programs, and outside organizations to support coordinated patient care.
- Assist with health screenings, outreach events, community education, and other Tribal Health initiatives when assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager, assigned supervisor, or healthcare provider.
Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of medical office procedures, receptionist duties, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and receiving patients.
- Knowledge of electronic health records and accurate patient documentation.
