SUMMARY:

Reports to Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer. Plans, organizes, and manages inpatient Pharmacy operations for Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Newport Hospital, Bradley Hospital, St. Anne's Hospital, Morton Hospital, and Gateway Healthcare. RESPONSIBILIES:

Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Strategic Planning & Leadership
  • Develops and recommends short- and long-term goals for inpatient pharmacy services aligned with Brown University Health's mission, values, and key business objectives; advocates for resources required to achieve operating results.
  • Participates in development, implementation, and monitoring of the inpatient operating budget for each affiliate; establishes operating priorities to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with system-wide strategy.
  • Participates in professional activities and maintains professional affiliations to remain current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging legislation.
Operations & People Leadership
  • Directs the effective utilization of human, financial, and material resources across inpatient areas in collaboration with affiliate Managers; monitors productivity data and drives corrective action to address variances.
  • Through affiliate Managers, ensures effective recruitment, development, and evaluation of inpatient pharmacy staff; monitors expenditures and ensures maintenance of equipment and physical inventory.
  • Develops, implements, and administers policies and procedures necessary to maintain high standards of care and effective service delivery across all inpatient pharmacy areas.
Clinical Services, Quality & Safety
  • Directs implementation and integration of inpatient clinical pharmacy services.
  • Leads formulary management initiatives to maximize therapeutic outcomes, minimize drug-related risk, and ensure cost-effective pharmacotherapy across the health system.
  • Directs planning and implementation of patient-focused inpatient service delivery models, including optimization of the inpatient electronic health record.
  • Ensures inpatient care activities meet established clinical standards, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and age-specific patient population needs.
Sterile & Non-Sterile Compounding
  • Directs sterile and non-sterile compounding services in collaboration with pharmacy department leadership.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable compounding regulations, including USP Chapters 795, 797, and 800, NIOSH hazardous drug handling guidelines, and TJC Medication Management standards.
Education & Academic Programs
  • Develops university-affiliated programs for undergraduate pharmacy students; collaborates with residency coordinators on recruitment, curriculum, and graduate pharmacist training; may serve as preceptor for Brown University Health pharmacy residency programs.
  • Directs pharmacy technician training programs; precepts pharmacy students and residents.
