Job Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs a variety of technical, clerical, and information systems procedures across laboratory disciplines to ensure accurate and timely test results. This role supports high-quality patient care by operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and analyzing specimens effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze laboratory findings to verify and ensure the accuracy of test results.
  • Enter clinical data into computer systems for documentation and record-keeping.
  • Prepare, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure optimal operation.
  • Assist with specimen collection, slide preparation, and analysis of blood, tissue, or other cellular samples.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments used in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood bank testing.
  • Establish and monitor quality assurance procedures to uphold laboratory standards.
  • Collect and examine blood samples, determining cell counts, morphology, and compatibility for transfusions.
  • Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids to detect normal and abnormal components.
  • Identify abnormalities such as infections, parasites, malignancies, or genetic issues within specimens.
  • Provide technical support and interpretation of test outcomes to healthcare professionals and researchers.
  • Follow laboratory policies and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Active Washington State MA-P License and valid Phlebotomist License.
  • Proven experience in processing and analyzing blood, tissue, or other specimens.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment, techniques, and quality control measures.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture and specimen collection across all age groups.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks within specified time frames.
  • Effective communication skills to convey results clearly to medical staff.
