General Summary

The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUD-P) is a professional counselor who addresses substance use disorders by recognizing the unique needs of each individual and fostering therapeutic relationships. The SUD-P evaluates how a patient fits into family and community contexts, motivates and teaches coping skills, and delivers individual, group, and family counseling. The SUD-P works with adolescents, adults, and families to advance positive outcomes through accurate diagnosis (DSM-V) and adherence to American Society of Addiction Medicine guidelines.

The role also collaborates with behavioral health providers, community members, and Family Medicine staff to achieve optimal outcomes and monitors grant-funded projects with leadership support.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    Must have completed the educational requirements to obtain a SUD-P license in Washington (bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or certificate in a SUD or chemical dependency program) and 2,500 supervised hours as an SUD-PT.
  • Licensure /

    Certifications:

    Current licensure to practice as a Substance Use Disorder Professional in Washington or ability to obtain within 60 days.
  • Experience:

    At least 2 years of clinical experience providing substance use disorder counseling across multiple demographics while considering socio-economic factors in rural communities.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of the treatment team, providing individual and group counseling and assessing patients with a variety of substance use disorders.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records and billing in accordance with federal, state, and KVH guidelines.
  • Follow WAC, RCW, and KVH procedures regarding patient care and documentation.
  • Integrate with other disciplines and evaluate patient progress.
  • Provide warm handoff to PCP, Emergency Department, or Express Care as appropriate.
  • May deliver substance use disorder training to providers and staff.
  • Engage in prevention programs, develop community partnerships, and serve as liaison with community agencies.
  • Participate in community welfare and outreach activities.
  • Display flexibility and adaptability to program changes that meet community needs.
  • Be willing to learn and use emerging technologies, including automation tools, software applications, and artificial intelligence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
