Access Specialist I - Patient Services

This per diem role as an Access Specialist I offers the opportunity to support patients through their entire care journey, ensuring smooth scheduling, registration, and financial processes.

Job Summary

As an Access Specialist I, you will provide exceptional customer service by accurately scheduling and registering patients for clinic and hospital services. Your responsibilities include verifying insurance and benefits, obtaining necessary referrals and pre-authorizations, and managing point-of-service collections. You will also handle multi-line phone systems, respond to patient inquiries, and maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and register patients using healthcare software, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and referrals prior to patient visits.
  • Collect patient financial responsibilities such as co-pays and balances, and manage cash drawer operations.
  • Operate multi-line telephone systems to assist and route calls efficiently.
  • Respond promptly to patient questions, ensuring comfort, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Complete daily administrative tasks including mail processing and workflow improvements.
  • Participate in special projects and support team activities.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required;
    Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Healthcare experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare revenue cycle is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is encouraged.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with insurance verification systems and healthcare software.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and various office equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and priorities.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a positive and respectful attitude.
Work Environment

This position involves 10-hour shifts on a per diem basis, offering flexibility and the chance to contribute meaningfully to patient care in a supportive setting.
