The Iowa Department of Natural Resources seeks an Environmental Specialist to join its Environmental Services Division at Field Office #6 in Washington, Iowa, serving a 16-county region in southeast Iowa. The role involves conducting on-site inspections of regulated environmental sites including water supplies, wastewater treatment plants, animal feeding operations, and storage tanks, while taking samples and analyzing data to ensure compliance with environmental laws.
You will communicate regulatory requirements to the public and officials, investigate environmental violations, and respond to hazardous spills and emergencies.
- Bachelor's Degree in a natural science from an accredited college or university
- Must possess, obtain and maintain a valid Iowa driver's license
- Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions and lift up to 25 pounds
- PC computer skills and ability to use databases and analyze data
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing about technical and regulatory information
- Ability to travel frequently during the work week
