Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma
  • Related work experience desirable
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

    DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

    To maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.

    MAINTENANCE PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Examines school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Assists Maintenance Director as requested.
  • TRANSPORTATION PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists Transportation Supervisor as needed and requested.
  • GROUNDS PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains and cares for school grounds.
  • Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
  • Connects sprinkling equipment and waters lawn and flower beds when required.
  • Shovels snow from sidewalks and driveways and spreads sand, salt or ashes to prevent slipping.
  • Empties outside garbage cans weekly.
  • Collects and disposes of litter, leaves and refuse.
  • CUSTODIAN PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists as directed.
  • Inspects and opens buildings; prepares schools for occupancy.
  • Cleans restrooms and locker rooms as directed.
  • Keeps the building and premises around each side safe, sanitary, and in attractive condition, free from rubbish, and maintained during inclement weather, as needed including steps, sidewalks, driveways, and play areas.
  • Shovels, plows, and sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate.
  • Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
  • Supports district food service by collecting product, supporting deliveries, maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in food service areas.
  • Keeps the halls and assigned areas free from rubbish or litter.
  • Makes such minor building repairs and maintenance, including painting as he is capable of and as directed.
  • Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property.
  • Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair as directed.
  • Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Principal, including set-up of facilities for special events.
  • Complies with local laws and procedures for the collection, storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste. Supports school recycling efforts through weekly collection, preparation for storage and pick-up.
  • Supports the delivery and distribution of school materials, supplies and furniture.
  • Assist other custodial school district employees as assigned and communicate to building leads, maintenance, transportation, and building Principals regarding areas of concern as needed.
  • Respond to emergency custodial needs in all buildings and verify that the area is sanitary.
  • Work cooperatively with custodial staff in other buildings on projects that require additional staff to accomplish, with permission for the Head Custodian or Principal.
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
