Job Summary
This position is responsible for developing, organizing, planning, leading, and directing clinical and management activities for the Emergency Department, in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Accountable for daily operations and oversight of nursing practice and patient care delivery. Participates as a member of the health care team in maintaining continuity and quality of patient care. Contributes to organizational operations and supports the mission by fostering interdepartmental communication/collaboration.
Demonstrates a high level of ability in leadership, supervisory skills, problem solving, patient advocacy and public relations.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and evaluate the clinical operations, programs and resources of the assigned clinical areas to assure safe and appropriate delivery of care.
- Ensure that all activities are conducted in a timely and cost‑effective manner and in compliance with organizational values, professional standards, internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the development of and implement new clinical systems, programs and policies to enhance existing services and raise the standard of care for the patient population served.
- Oversee the resolution of daily clinical administrative and operational issues; rotate Administrator On Call duty.
- Ensure all aspects of clinical operations are conducted and documented in compliance with relevant internal policies, standards, procedures, and relevant regulatory and accrediting body requirements.
- Participate in the annual budget process, review revenues and expenses, complete Departmental Operating Reports on a monthly basis.
- Collaborate with other departments (pharmacy, ambulatory clinics, outpatient procedure unit) to ensure timely outpatient services are available.
- Assist as needed in the Emergency Department; act as a resource during times of high volume or acuity working with the Emergency Department charge nurse.
- Assume authority and responsibility for hospital operations in the absence of Director of Nursing Services and Chief Nursing Officer.
- Co‑lead Unit Based Team and Staffing Committee for the unit.
- Engage with internal and external partners to advance the Summit Pacific mission and vision; participate in professional groups/associations; lead work groups, projects and committees as assigned.
- Perform special projects and related duties as assigned.
- Build and maintain relationships, customize interactions to meet the needs of different groups, surface and resolve conflicts.

RequiredEducation and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent combination of education and experience with confirmation of BSN in progress.
- Three (3) years of recent nursing experience in a hospital setting.
- Three (3) years as a charge nurse/supervisor or at least one (1) year of management experience.
- Emergency Department or Critical Care experience preferred.
