Correctional Unit Supervisor - Permanent Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC)

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill one permanent full-time Correctional Unit Supervisor (CUS) position at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center.

COYOTE RIDGE CORRECTIONS CENTER (CRCC) is located on a 60-acre site about 40 miles north of the Tri-Cities. CRCC is comprised of two-complexes. The Medium Security Complex (MSC) is a 2,048 bed facility that houses Incarcerated Individuals (I/I) with Medium and MI3 Custody. MSC consists of 4 Hybrid units and 4 Medium units. The Minimum Security Unit (MSU) is a 480 bed facility that houses assisted living and MI2 Custody I/I.

MSU consists of 2 units. This is a work/program orientated facility that offers many educational, vocational, and self-help programs and Class II and Class III Correctional Industries work programs.

The Department of Corrections (DOC), Prisons Division, in collaboration with its criminal justice partners, contributes to staff and community safety and holds incarcerated individuals (I/Is) accountable in administering criminal sanctions and effective reentry programs. The Correctional Unit Supervisor works collaboratively with the Correctional Program Manager to develop an effective custody and classification program that is cost effective, productive, and safe.

The classification system is designed to promote incarcerated individual participation in work, education, treatment, I/I change, and vocational programming in a manner that results in graduated release through a systematic decrease in supervision and corresponding increase in I/I responsibility and reentry into the community. This position is critical in maintaining core correctional operations by ensuring living units operate safely and in ensuring classification staff prepare I/I for reentry into the community through classification, assessment, program referral and release planning.

This position works in collaboration with community corrections, courts, and local law enforcement agencies to ensure that I/I under DOC supervision adhere to appropriate evidence based programming through I/I accountability, so that reentry back into the community is productive and safe.

This position is responsible for supervising I/I, staff and daily operations of an I/I living unit in accordance with Washington Administrative Code (WAC's), DOC policies and facility Operational Memoranda. The management of a living unit includes: (1) providing direct supervision and leadership to Classification Counselors, support staff, and Correctional Sergeants who supervise Correctional Officers; (2) the continuous inspection and review of correctional and security procedures to ensure proper application of directives;

(3) analyzing operations and recommending solutions to problems and improvements for efficiency and economy; ensuring all sanitation and security requirements are met; and (4) assisting with the development and implementation of new or updated DOC policies, Operational Memoranda, and facility rules and procedures relating to facility functions and assigned tasks.
