Job Description
- Promote safety and set a leading example for safety practices.
- Coach, train, and develop team members across documentation, discipline, hiring, and scheduling.
- Attend daily huddles and support maintenance and organizational goals.
- Conduct weekly Gemba walks with the Plant Manager and occasional walks with other team members.
- Create, track, and achieve maintenance metrics.
- Ensure team schedules align with equipment availability.
- Build pride, ownership, and trust within the department and across operating units.
- Analyze root causes and implement corrective actions for repetitive or major problems.
- Eliminate cleanup areas through improved mechanical systems.
- Monitor line efficiency to maintain process improvement targets.
- Understand company profit, value, and cost analysis.
- Coach and develop maintenance personnel using lean manufacturing principles such as 6S, A3 thinking, daily improvement, visual management, and other lean tools.
- Track departmental metrics and solve problems to meet or exceed them.
- Ensure good rapport with other departments; maintain sufficient cross‑training for support.
- Attend Supervisor operating meetings.
- Support Lean improvement projects.
- Know, understand, and apply Lock‑out/Tag‑out procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and ensure tools, supplies, and equipment remain in their “home” locations.
- Keep lines of communication open with other team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 5+ years leading a large department.
- 5+ years in a manufacturing plant environment (lumber manufacturing a plus).
- Experience in maintenance and production environments.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Self‑directed, safe‑recorded leader capable of coaching and training others.
- Working knowledge of CMMS, Microsoft Suite, and parts management.
- Strong problem‑solving, technical troubleshooting, planning, and organization skills.
- Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to safety procedures.
- Reliable with a good attendance record.
- Ability to streamline processes and reduce waste in the area of responsibility.
- Experience with lean techniques preferred.
- Must be 18+ years old to work in an industrial sawmill environment.
- Must possess a HS Diploma/GED.
- Must be physically capable of standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and reaching above shoulders; may lift > 50 pounds on occasion.
- Subject to a criminal background check; a criminal record will not automatically disqualify a candidate according to applicable state law.
- Must pass a drug test and pre‑employment physical exam.
- 45+ hours a week.
- Schedules vary based on production, maintenance, and project needs.
- Shift work and/or weekend work may be required.
- Full‑time position.
- Salary: $100,000–$145,000 annually.
- Company‑provided laptop and phone allowance.
