Maintenance Technician
Supports manufacturing facilities across all areas of the manufacturing process while maintaining the highest standards of productivity, efficiency, safety, quality, and sanitation. Fabricates, assembles components for experimental projects, and repairs or modifies existing machines, equipment, and facilities to ensure reliable, consistent operation per the directions and specifications approved by supervision.
- Form and fabricate parts and components based on graphic, written, or verbal directions.
- Use machine tools, electric equipment, and instruments to work with a variety of metals and materials within prescribed tolerances.
- Analyze malfunctioning machines and systems (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, etc.), recommend corrective actions, and make repairs or modifications as approved by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Maintain a working understanding of production equipment, systems, and facilities to perform maintenance effectively under general direction.
- Collaborate with other departments to maintain a safe environment for food production and workers.
- Share responsibility with team members to meet or exceed Quality, Safety, Sanitation, Environmental, and GMP standards.
- Serve as a resource to troubleshoot processing problems promptly.
- Ensure equipment and facility repairs/improvements maintain a safe, productive environment.
- Establish and maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
- Ensure all process lines, equipment, and systems are fully operational and properly maintained.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures; restore equipment to full operation or recommend repair solutions.
- Take responsibility for personal safety behaviors and performance.
- Fabricate and assemble new or modified mechanical components for equipment and systems.
- Set up and conduct tests of completed units or components under operational conditions; investigate design changes to improve equipment or gather data for development, standardization, and quality control.
- Use technical references and past practices to determine sizes, capacities, dimensions, and other data, subject to Maintenance Supervisor approval.
- Maintain spare parts inventory and keep records of equipment and work orders.
- Teach, train, coach, and assist other maintenance technicians.
- Solicit feedback and ideas from process line team members regarding equipment and line performance, using insights to improve productivity, efficiency, and cost savings.
- Foster a problem-solving environment that values and recognizes team member contributions.
- Ensure maintenance procedures and practices are accurate and up-to-date.
- Lead improvement projects as required.
- Analyze test results related to design and specifications; modify or adjust equipment to meet required standards.
- Record test procedures and results, and recommend changes to improve performance.
- Modify plant layout by changing process piping, building structures, adding wiring, and conduits.
- Research and record equipment maintenance requirements; implement daily equipment inspections and requirements.
- Conduct asset utilization, downtime, and changeover studies.
- Track equipment and line efficiencies; communicate findings to the plant team to solicit improvement suggestions.
- Adhere to the maintenance budget and monitor cost control.
- Provide technical expertise and support regarding yield, efficiency, and throughput improvements.
- Research, develop, and implement cost-reduction ideas.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Ensure team members are knowledgeable of and follow Quality, Safety, Environmental, and Maintenance practices and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required or directed by the supervisor.
Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in a related industry.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in operating plant equipment, including but not limited to electronic instruments, welders, torches, lathes, saws, grinders, hand tools, belt lacers, rotary hammers, drills, threaders, computers, presses, benders, plasma cutters, trucks, drain reamers, pumps, communication equipment, forklifts, manlifts, HVAC equipment, and advanced PLC troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform basic to complex machine setups.
- Troubleshooting expertise and ability to teach others.
- Familiarity with working materials such as metals, plastics, piping, wiring, concrete, machine components, lubricants, solvents, fittings, fasteners, power transmission equipment, belting, steam, and compressed air.
- Basic computer skills (email, CMMS).
Communication:
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely in both verbal and written forms.
- Ability to explain, teach, and coach processes, procedures, and concepts.
- Ability to provide constructive and timely feedback.
