Job SummaryThe Substitute Teacher serves as a temporary classroom instructor in the absence of the regular teacher. This position is responsible for delivering lesson plans, maintaining a positive and orderly classroom environment, and ensuring the safety and well-being of students throughout the school day. The Substitute Teacher supports the mission of the school by fostering an atmosphere that promotes academic growth, respect, and Christian values.
This is a part-time, as-needed position.
- Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the regular classroom teacher.
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and productive learning environment that supports student success.
- Supervise students throughout the school day, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Manage classroom behavior in accordance with school policies and expectations.
- Take attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
- Provide instruction, answer student questions, and assist students with assigned classroom work.
- Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, or other assigned duties as directed.
- Adapt to varying grade levels, subject areas, and classroom settings.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and school information.
- Communicate any significant student concerns, disciplinary issues, or incidents to the school administration.
- Prepare an end-of-day report for the regular teacher detailing lessons completed, student progress, attendance, and any notable classroom events.
- Follow all school policies and diocesan Safe Environment and child protection requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or school administration.
High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree in education or a related field preferred. Valid substitute teaching certification or eligibility, if required by state or diocesan regulations. Previous experience working with children in a classroom, educational, or youth setting preferred. Ability to effectively manage classroom behavior and maintain a positive learning environment. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Flexibility to work with a variety of grade levels and instructional settings.
