Volunteer Coordinator RoleThe Volunteer Coordinator supports KVH’s community engagement efforts by coordinating a well‑organized, welcoming, and compliant volunteer program. This position recruits, trains, schedules, supports, and recognizes volunteers who assist with hospital operations, patient services, and community engagement activities.
This role serves as an important connection point between KVH, volunteers, employees, patients, families, and the broader community. The Volunteer Coordinator works closely with department leaders, the Community Engagement team, and Human Resources to ensure volunteers are placed effectively, properly prepared, supported in their roles, and held to KVH expectations for professionalism, confidentiality, safety, service excellence, and compliance.
The Volunteer Coordinator demonstrates excellent customer service and professional communication in all interactions with volunteers, employees, managers/supervisors, physicians, patients, patient family members, and community partners.

Qualifications- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience is preferred.
- At least one year of experience in volunteer coordination, healthcare, nonprofit services, community engagement, or another service‑oriented environment is required.
- Experience using human resources software, volunteer management software, or similar workforce management software is preferred.
- Coordinates the KVH Volunteer Program, including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, scheduling, communication, support, recognition, and retention of volunteers.
- Works with department leaders, the Community Engagement team, and Human Resources to identify volunteer needs, develop appropriate volunteer assignments, and ensure volunteers are prepared to serve safely and effectively.
- Develops and maintains volunteer program materials, including role descriptions, applications, forms, orientation materials, schedules, and related resources.
- Ensures volunteers meet KVH requirements, including background checks, health screens, confidentiality and HIPAA expectations, safety requirements, risk management standards, and other applicable requirements.
- Maintains accurate volunteer records, including schedules, training documentation, service hours, compliance records, recognition information, and related reports.
- Communicates regularly with volunteers and staff to support program operations, answer questions, address concerns, and promote a positive volunteer experience.
- Provides coaching, feedback, recognition, and support to volunteers. May recommend reassignment, corrective action, suspension, or removal from the volunteer program as needed in consultation with the Director, HR & Community Engagement and appropriate department leaders.
- Proactively learns and applies new technology, systems, workflows, and organizational tools to support efficient, accurate, and compliant volunteer program operations, including KVH-approved software, automation tools, and AI-supported resources.
- Supports volunteer recognition, community outreach, recruitment events, and other internal & external community engagement activities.
- Assists with volunteer program goals, budget tracking, reports, process improvement, and program evaluation as assigned.
- Travels locally as needed to support volunteer recruitment, community engagement activities, meetings, recognition events, and other KVH-related business.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service and professionalism in all communications.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the Volunteer Program, Community Engagement, and other organizational priorities, consistent with the general nature and scope of the position.
