Overview

Reports to the President of the Open Door Women's Shelter Board.

Qualifications
  • Four-year degree or five years of experience in a Human Services related field. Experience in a leadership capacity.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, staff, and committees to identify, create, and implement strategic plans that help ODCC to remain on task toward our mission/vision and support day-to-day operations.
  • Create and maintain organizational culture and promote team unity and collaboration among team members.
  • Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the center.
  • Keep in regular contact with committee chairs and staff to ensure agreed-upon goals and tasks are being completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure employee performance is at a level that best serves our residents and one another as well as best steward donor funds. Evaluate employees and assess their job performance and level of job satisfaction to determine if any changes need to be made to improve performance/culture. Hold employees accountable for proper time management and reporting.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to exchange information, build team cohesiveness, and motivate staff to maintain consistently high levels of performance.
  • Assist Personnel Committee in developing staff recruitment and training policies and procedures (e.g., contracts, timesheets, evaluations, etc.).
  • Develop, document and train on procedures to ensure employees have overall familiarity with each paid position and implement cross-training.
  • Periodically review and suggest revisions (as needed) to the Center’s Rules & Regulations as well as all Board Governing documents.
  • Support the Center’s volunteers, board members, committees, partnering organizations, resource organizations, and funders.
  • Attend and report to the ODCC Board meetings.
  • Work with the Treasurer and Finance committee to write and revise budget, monitor expenditures, and maintain effective fiscal management.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable as well as payroll. Collect, check, and report staff timesheets to the Board Treasurer.
  • Maintain official records and documents.
  • Coordinate the writing of grants. Provide oversight and report on awarded grants on organizational needs and cashflow goals throughout the year.
  • Lead the organization’s marketing strategy and actively build relationships with other community leaders and donors.
  • Provide community education via group and donor visits.
  • Maintain effective communications with current and potential donors.
  • Promote, develop, and maintain effective relationships with agencies and community resource groups.
  • Collaborate with statewide and national peer organizations to advise the board and coordinate care for the homeless population.
  • Stay abreast of current issues in delivery of homeless services, recommending policy and procedural changes as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested by the ODCC Board President.
  • The Executive Director shall also be ultimately responsible for the following functions in managing and working with staff:
  • Act as Admin over HMIS, ensuring all users are certified and up to date as well as properly exit any terminated staff. Ensure resident records are current and properly entered/updated in HMIS. Ensure all appropriate privacy notices and practices are in place regarding HMIS and resident privacy.
  • Regularly check safety equipment is up to date (smoke/CO detectors, fire extinguishers) and operating properly.
  • Oversee property maintenance.
  • Run background checks for staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure and document paid staff receive CPR, first aid, and defibrillator training and timely re-certification.
  • If no coverage available, serve as evening and/or night manager.
  • Be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — suggest alternating weeks or months.
  • Responsible for the safety of residents, staff, and visitors to the center.

    Hours:

    30-40 hours per week as necessary
  • The Executive Director duties permit flexibility in how and where those hours are spent. Optimally, the Executive Director is on campus at least 2 days/week.
