Basic Functions

Performs tasks associated with the management of fisheries resources, including determining presence or absence of fish, monitoring environmental conditions in lakes and streams, and evaluating the effectiveness of fish stocking programs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED and 36 months progressively responsible experience equivalent to Technician I or equivalent level, related to wildlife, natural resource management or closely related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill to perform the functions of the position.
  • Knowledge of Tribal fish and wildlife codes, laws, regulations and procedures.
  • Knowledge of standard fishery assessment techniques and biological data collection.
  • Accurate identification of freshwater fish species of the Columbia River Basin.
  • Basic repairs and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Efficient computer use daily for data entry.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Experience using hand and power tools and proper care and maintenance of tools.
  • Proficient English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation for professional correspondence.
  • Strong human relations skills to work productively and cooperatively with diverse teams, exercise patience when dealing with customers, and convey technical concepts.
  • Ability to apply standard fisheries laboratory and field methods to gather data.
  • Effective communication with coworkers, crew and the general public.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to achieve results, goals and objectives on time.
  • Safe and effective operation of equipment, including hand and power tools and sampling gear.
  • Understanding and compliance with applicable regulations and standards to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ability to handle adverse situations, make appropriate decisions, and work calmly and accurately.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Collection, compilation, and recording of scientific data.
  • Effective teamwork in a multicultural environment.
  • Independent work following instructions to completion.
  • Ability to perform arduous tasks including heavy lifting, piling and walking over uneven terrain.
  • Physical capability to walk, bend, stoop, and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings, early mornings, holidays, weekends, and occasional overnight travel.
  • Capability to drive/haul trailers and operate boats in all types of weather.
  • Willingness to work in varying, sometimes remote locations in all types of weather.
  • Comfortable working on boats, docks, and catwalks around swift moving cold water.
Background and Drug Testing

Positions that are safety sensitive are subject to pre‑employment drug testing and post‑accident drug testing. All positions may also be subject to pre‑employment background clearances, which must be maintained throughout employment.

Licensing and Insurance

Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.
