Senior Level Biologist For Fish & Wildlife Habitat Preservation

Become our senior level professional Biologist regarding Fish & Wildlife habitat preservation, protection, conservation, restoration, enhancement, and environmental permitting requirements within West Grays Harbor County!

Investigate and prescribe appropriate resource protection requirements on legally mandated permits, while specifically implementing the Hydraulic Project Approval process.

Picture yourself reviewing HPA applications for completeness and compliance with other permit requirements.

In this dynamic role you will provide technical assistance in the interpretation, use, and application of Priority Habitats and Species (PHS) information by local, state, and federal governments as well as public and private organizations.

You thrive on building collaboration and teamwork, collaborate with state and federal forest management agencies when reviewing Forest Practice Applications (FPA's) for impacts to fish and wildlife habitat.

Duties

Our Area Habitat Biologist, Administers the Hydraulic Project Approval process in accordance with Chapter 77.55.RCW, 77.57.RCW, and Chapter 220-110-WAC (Hydraulic Code Rules). Serves as expert witness in court cases:

  • Technical review of project proposals to determine if correct information on resources present on or near the project site are identified and inventoried and that appropriate mitigation is provided for identified impacts to these resources.
  • Conduct field reviews and participate in pre-construction meetings.

Serves as lead for forest habitats by providing office and field review of plans, permits, and actions:

  • Provide provisions for the protection of fish life using the Forest Practice Hydraulic Permit (FPHP) Concurrence Review process.
  • Participate in Water Type Modification Interdisciplinary teams, applying expert advice on fish habitat conditions.

Provides biological expertise to cities and counties to promote habitat conservation needs into land use planning and development:

  • Foster open collaborative partnerships with City and County planners to incorporate best available science into land use ordinances.
  • Serve as the local WDFW representative to support implementation of the Growth Management Act and Shoreline Management Act.

Serves as lead for the agency on Salmon Recovery Projects:

  • Represents the Department on technical committees, specifically serves as Department senior level biologist regarding fish and wildlife habitat preservation, protection, conservation, restoration, enhancement, and environmental permitting requirements.
  • Facilitate and coordinate WDFW input to Salmon Recovery activities with lead entities and other technical advisory committees within geographic area of responsibility.
