Walgreens Pharmacy Assistant / Cashier – Provide a distinctive and delightful customer experience, handle sales transactions, and assist pharmacists with prescription processing in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Responsibilities- Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
- Register sales on assigned cash register and provide courteous, fair, friendly, and efficient checkout service.
- Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy, using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance with products and services, and resolving issues to ensure a positive experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices with all team members.
- Recommend items for sale, trade‑ups, and companion items, and guide customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
- Process voids, returns, rain checks, refunds, and exchanges; take customers to OTC aisle when needed.
- Maintain counters and shelves clean and well merchandised, take inventory, and keep records; check in and price merchandise as directed.
- Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying medication, and checking for interactions.
- Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable dispensing activities.
- Handle telephone calls that do not require pharmacist attention, including those to physicians.
- Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
- Assist pharmacy department with inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceuticals.
- Ensure compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products (e.g., alcoholic beverages, tobacco).
- Construct and maintain displays, including promotional, seasonal, and sale merchandise; complete resets and revisions as directed.
- Assist with separation of food items and product placement; perform stock rotation using first‑in, first‑out.
- Use store systems and store equipment.
- Provide customer service in the photo area, including digital passport photo service, poster print, and creative machine.
- Assume web‑pick‑up responsibilities: monitor orders in Picture Care Plus, pick items, and deliver orders to customers on arrival.
- Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to ensure a clean, neat, orderly store condition.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
- EARN and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state‑required certification/registration.
- Attend training, complete PPLs requested by manager or corporate, and acquire continuing education credits to maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy.
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- At least six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Good math skills for accurate prescription filling (counting, measuring, weighing).
- Good computer skills.
- Knowledge of store inventory control.
- PTCB certification.
