Job Description
Position Summary

The Assistant Cook supports the school’s Food Service Program by assisting with the safe preparation, handling, and serving of breakfast and lunch. This position requires attention to detail, reliability, and adherence to strict health and safety guidelines. The Assistant Cook contributes to a positive school environment by ensuring high-quality meals are prepared and served efficiently and in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist with handling, preparing, and serving breakfast and lunch.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, maintaining a current Washington State Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Use proper body mechanics and safely lift up to forty (40) pounds.
  • Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Comply with all Grand Coulee Dam School District policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward the job, students, staff, and families.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional and ethical manner, respecting confidentiality and integrity.
  • Work independently and remain organized while managing time effectively.
  • Adapt to frequent interruptions and changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • Show initiative while also following directions from the Head Cook, Assistant Principal, and Superintendent.
  • Dress appropriately for a school setting.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with the kitchen team and other school staff.
  • Assist with general cleaning, dishwashing, and sanitation duties to ensure a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • Maintain accurate production records and required documentation.
  • Understand the importance of accuracy, as errors may have serious consequences for staff and students.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, including USDA and health department requirements.
Hours, Schedule, & Compensation
  • Hours: 5:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • Contract Length: 152-day school year
  • Compensation: Based on the current PSE Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Background Check: Must pass a valid Washington State background check.
