$ 20.77 - 25.12 per hour

Primary Responsibility

Performs a variety of duties in handling prepping, preparing, cooking and serving food. Maintain sanitary conditions of dining and kitchen facilities. This position includes loading and unloading food delivery from food service vendors. This position also includes loading and unloading food service supplies into food service van.

Additional duties

Food Service Assistant serves as the food service cashier. Cashiering, handling of food service monies during meal service, counting collected monies and turning monies in daily to the head cashier.

Responsibilities
  • Read menu for the day, prepare assign food items needed for meals.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Assist other employees in basic food preparation tasks as needed.
  • Set-up and prepare serving areas.
  • Maintain all food items at their proper temperature.
  • Serve school nutrition program meals for students and staff.
  • Ensure that customers are able to expeditiously move through meal lines.
  • Maintain a clean and appealing service line and area.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment and utensils after service.
  • Replace all equipment and utensils to their storage area.
  • Collect and operate a point of service cashiering station through a student data base system.
  • Maintain student confidentiality associated with the free and reduced meal program.
  • Count and balance cash drawer.
  • Specific duties assigned by the Food Service Supervisor.
Duties
  • Organize time to assure food is ready to serve students at set service times.
  • Set-up service areas for ease in serving students.
  • Monitor and maintain proper portion controls.
  • Maintain food and equipment to meet state and local health department requirements.
  • Operate and maintain commercial dishwashing equipment.
  • Serve complete nutritious meals to students and staff.
  • Clean and prepare equipment for the next service.
  • Restock supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in food preparation to include cooking and baking which included acquiring and applying nutritional knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with other employees, students, community representatives, and school staff.
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction; sound judgment and decision-making capabilities are essential.
  • Ability to make mathematical calculations necessary for effective food preparation.
  • Ability to read and comprehend in English recipes and directions for equipment usage.
  • Valid state food handler’s certification.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated basic performance skills in quantity food service.
  • Have basic knowledge of child nutrition.
