The Inventory Clerk is responsible for accurately counting, scanning, and reconciling inventory across multiple store locations. This role plays a key part in maintaining inventory accuracy, minimizing shrink, and supporting ordering and replenishment decisions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working independently while traveling between stores.
Essential Functions- Perform regular physical inventory counts of products, including shelf items, backstock, coolers, freezers, and storage areas
- Use handheld scanners or inventory software to scan and record inventory accurately
- Verify inventory counts against system records and identify discrepancies
- Investigate and report inventory variances, shortages, overages, or damaged goods
- Maintain accurate documentation and submit inventory reports in a timely manner
- Travel between multiple store locations according to a set schedule
- Follow established inventory procedures and food safety guidelines
- Work with store managers and staff to ensure counts are completed efficiently with minimal disruption to store operations
- Assist with cycle counts, spot checks, and special inventory audits as needed
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of inventory areas during counting activities
- Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
- Basic math skills and proficiency with numbers.
- Ability to operate handheld scanners, tablets, or inventory management software.
- Reliable transportation and capability to travel between multiple store locations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and/or overnights as scheduled for inventory counts.
- Ability to lift up to 40-50 lbs. and stand, bend, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Dependable and consistent work habits.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Previous experience in inventory, retail, grocery, or warehouse settings.
- Familiarity with cycle counting, spot checking, and inventory auditing processes.
- Experience using specialized inventory control software.
- Organizational and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated integrity and confidentiality in handling data.
- Ability to frequently walk and/or stand for prolonged periods.
- Ability to bend, squat, stoop, reach, climb, and/or crawl as required.
- Ability to lift, carry, or move items up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent manual and finger dexterity for using scanners and handling products.
- May be exposed to varying temperatures (coolers, freezers, outdoor conditions).
- Able to tolerate a fast-paced environment with physical activity.
- Grocery store sales floors, stockrooms, coolers, and freezers.
- Exposure to changing temperatures and weather when traveling or working in refrigerated areas.
- Potential exposure to noise, crowds, and moving machinery.
- Work performed both independently and in collaboration with store teams.
- May encounter cleaning chemicals or other retail-related materials.
