Counter Staff Position
A counter staff member is responsible for directly interacting with customers at a service counter, taking orders, processing payments, providing information about products or services, ensuring a positive customer experience, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
$17.13 per hour
Key responsibilities of a counter staff member may include:
- Greeting customers as they approach the counter with a friendly smile, and professional demeanor.
- Taking Orders:
Accurately taking customer orders, including specifying options, quantities, and any special requests. - Product Knowledge:
Having detailed knowledge of products or services offered to answer customer questions and provide recommendations. - Operating POS system:
Efficiently processing transactions using a point-of-sale system, including scanning items, accepting payment methods (cash, credit cards), and providing change. - Preparing food or drinks (if applicable):
Depending on the setting, may be responsible for basic food preparation like assembling sandwiches, pouring beverages, or following specific recipe instructions. - Packaging Items:
Properly packaging purchased items to ensure customer satisfaction. - Handling customer inquiries:
Addressing customer concerns, complaints, or questions regarding products, services, or store policies. - Maintaining cleanliness:
Keeping the counter area clean and organized, including wiping spills, restocking shelves, and disposing of trash. - Visual merchandising:
Presenting products attractively on the counter to encourage sales. - Following company policies:
Adhering to established cash handling procedures, safety guidelines, and customer service standards.
Skills and qualities needed for a counter staff position:
- Excellent customer service skills:
Ability to interact with customers in a positive, courteous, and helpful manner. - Communication skills:
Clear and concise communication to accurately take orders and address customer concerns. - Basic math skills:
Accurate cash handling and ability to calculate totals quickly. - Attention to detail:
Ensuring orders are correct and following proper procedures. - Ability to work under pressure:
Handling busy periods and multiple customer requests efficiently. - Teamwork skills:
Collaborating with other staff members to maintain smooth operations.
