Central Region Well Construction Coordinator (Hydrogeologist
3) (In-Training)
The Department of Ecology invites qualified candidates to join the Water Resources Program as the Central Region Well Construction Coordinator. This position focuses on enforcing well construction regulations, providing technical assistance, and ensuring compliance across seven counties in the Central region.
Location: Central Region Office, Union Gap, WA
Schedule: Eligible for telework and flexible schedules; must work at least one day per week in the office.

Responsibilities- Manage well construction enforcement and compliance work for the entire Central region.
- Provide technical assistance to well drillers, owners, government agencies, the public, and Ecology staff.
- Conduct hydrogeologic and technical analysis of well construction problems, including education on proper law and regulation application.
- Administer licensing tests for well contractors and maintain regional well reports and video scan data.
- Investigate well construction violations, perform compliance actions, and prepare enforcement documents.
- Act as an expert witness in Pollution Control Hearings Board or Superior Court hearings on water well construction laws.
Required for Hydrogeologist 2 (In-Training):
- Six years of related experience and/or education.
- Communication, problem solving, regulatory application, investigation, technical analysis, and collaboration skills.
- Major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or a closely allied field.
Required for Hydrogeologist 3 (Goal Class):
- Seven years of related experience and/or education.
- Possession of a valid Washington State Geologist license and Hydrogeologist Specialty license.
- Communication, problem solving, regulatory application, investigation, technical analysis, and collaboration skills.
- Major study in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or a closely allied field.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency in geographic information systems (GIS) software (desired).
- Experience with downhole video, geophysical, or other downhole investigations and equipment (desired).
- Knowledge of central Washington geology and hydrogeologic issues (desired).
- Understanding of well construction techniques, problems, and alternatives (desired).
