LOCATION:

(Primary Location) Omak, WA

Basic Functions:
This is a Non-Exempt position. Responsible for strategic oversight and daily management of all anadromous fish harvest programs under the jurisdiction of the Colville Confederated Tribes (CCT). The Harvest Sub-Division Biologist oversees a complex harvest program designed to support traditional subsistence and ceremonial fisheries while simultaneously increasing abundance, distribution, diversity and productivity of naturally spawning populations of summer/fall Chinook salmon in the Columbia and Okanogan Rivers.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:

  • Biologist II: A Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in fisheries, natural resources science, or environmental science AND 36 months' experience at the Biologist I or equivalent level related to fish management, conservation, and/or research; OR A Master's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the applicable science AND 12 months' experience at the Biologist I or equivalent level related to fish management, conservation, and/or research.

  • Senior Biologist: A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in the applicable science AND 36 months of required experience; OR A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in fisheries, natural resources science, or environmental science AND 60 months' experience at the Biologist I or II or equivalent level related to fish management, fish research, habitat management, or
  • habitat research. Transcript required. ​​​​​​​
  • Principal Biologist: A Master's degree from an accredited college in the applicable science AND 96 months of progressive experience up to the Senior Biologist level; OR A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in fisheries, natural resources science, or environmental science AND 120 months of progressive experience up to the Senior Biologist level related to fish management, or fish research. Transcript required.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License and be eligible for coverage under the Tribes' vehicle insurance.
  • May require a class B CDL.
  • Requires a clean driver's record that qualifies for a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operators Identification card.
  • Requires a food handlers permit or able to obtain within 10 days of employment.
  • Requires a forklift operator license or obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Requires a Washington State boat safety course within 90 days of hire. Must maintain license, certifications and insurance coverage throughout duration of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities;

  • Requires knowledge the CCT and other Columbia River salmon fisheries. Requires knowledge of U.S. v. Oregon Agreement.
  • Requires knowledge of State and Federal regulatory requirements.
  • Requires knowledge of the Endangered Species Act and their processes.
  • Requires fish management knowledge and skill. Requires knowledge of standard laboratory and field methods and statistical data processing related to fisheries work, fish species, their habits, population dynamics, life histories and fishing harvest regulations.
  • Requires various techniques for salmon harvest management (selective fishing, targeting hatchery versus wild fish, recovery of ESA species with harvest) Regional salmon recovery and sub-basin plans, and other Columbia River and Pacific Ocean salmon harvest, production, and fish habitat management processes and techniques.
