POSITION:
Natural Resources Technician Senior

SALARY: $ 24.34, per hour

REPORTS TO:

Resident Fish Division Biologist II

LOCATION:

Nespelem, WA

Basic Functions:
This is a Non-Exempt position. The Natural Resources Technician Senior works in the Resident Fish Division for the Kokanee Enhancement project. The principal duties of this position will include field work studies related to the conservation and protection of kokanee salmon. Duties will include, but are not limited to: boat and backpack electrofishing surveys, gill netting surveys, hydro-acoustics surveys, creel surveys, weir trap surveys, screw trap studies, stream side egg incubation studies and radio/or acoustic telemetry studies.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:

  • Natural Resource Technician Senior: A Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in wildlife, natural resources science, range or environmental science (must submit transcripts for credit) OR Associate's Degree in the field of fish, wildlife, and/or natural resource management (must submit transcripts for credit) AND 24 months of experience at a Technician II and a satisfactory work performance review OR 48 months combined education/experience demonstrating the ability to perform the functions of this position.

    A two-year technical degree in the field of fish, wildlife and/or natural resource management may substitute for twenty – four months of experience.
  • Requires a valid driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes' vehicle insurance.
  • Requires a class A CDL or obtain a CDL within one year of hire.
  • Requires a clean driving record that qualifies for a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operators Identification card.
  • Requires a Washington State boat safety course within 90 days of hire. Must maintain license and certifications throughout employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires knowledge of Lake Roosevelt fish species and ability to correctly identify preferred.
  • Requires knowledge of standard fishery techniques. Requires basic knowledge of biological data collection.
  • Requires basic sampling gear and equipment maintenance and repair. Requires working knowledge of computers for word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software for data entry and web browser for researching sampling equipment.
  • Requires the skill of attention to detail.
  • Requires experience using hand and power tools, and proper care and maintenance of tools.
  • Requires sufficient knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation to prepare professional correspondence.
  • Requires sufficient human relations skill to work productively and cooperatively with diverse teams, exercise patience when dealing with internal and external customers, and convey technical concepts.
  • Requires skill and experience in operating and maintaining boats and other research equipment.
  • Requires the ability to efficiently fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
  • Requires the ability to enter data into spreadsheets and databases, quality control of finalized data sets.
  • Requires the ability to perform duties in both an office environment and at field sites where work is performed.
  • Requires the ability to execute duties and responsibilities as assigned in a timely fashion.
  • Requires excellent attendance.
  • Requires the ability to apply standard fisheries related laboratory and field methods to gather data.
  • Requires the ability to accurately identify freshwater fish species of the Columbia River basin.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, crew and the general public.
  • Requires the ability to organize and prioritize work to achieve results, goals and objectives on time.
