Location: McChord Air Force Base
Duties Help The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART), technical authority responsible for coordinating the work of other journey-level workers to perform/advise scheduled or unscheduled inspections, repairs, replacements, troubleshoot, documentation, build-up and tear down, flight line maintenance and operational runs of aircraft propulsion systems installed or uninstalled, and to provide training to all assigned reservist personnel as required in the accomplishment of duties set forth herein.
Determine when the nature and scope of repair involves other trades, e.g., aircraft mechanics, electricians, electronics mechanics, sheet metal/structural repair or integrated systems mechanics and coordinate the work of these individuals with the other trades. DUTY 1:
Serves as technical authority to perform/coordinate/oversee troubleshooting and analysis of gas turbine engines to determine air worthiness of propulsion systems installed on aircraft on the flight-line and uninstalled in back shop and test cell capacities. Applies total engine and aircraft system knowledge when troubleshooting/evaluating propulsion systems performance. Progressively engages or turns on all systems operated by cockpit controls to include but not limited to aircraft engine, aircraft power unit, and brake systems.
Reads data and settings from cockpit and instruments and gauges, referring to technical manuals, procedures, schematics, and other technical guidelines. DUTY 2:
Coordinates, oversees and performs the disassembly, repair, overhaul, inspection and reassembly of aircraft propulsion systems, sub-assemblies, and components. Determines degree of disassembly required to repair or replace defective parts or components, make prescribed modifications and make final adjustments to achieve acceptable propulsion systems operation. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of historical maintenance requirements of assigned aircraft/propulsion systems to participate in pre-inspection meetings and ensure that all required propulsion system maintenance is included on the schedule.
Responsible for coordinating journey-level workers from multiple trades on various tasks associated with propulsion system maintenance. Inspect new/overhauled parts and components for proper form, fit and function. DUTY 3:
Skilled/certified in the operation and maintenance of diagnostic test equipment, on-board electronic equipment, a variety of special equipment, hand, measurement and power tools. Maintain certification on the completion of tasks requiring the use of various precision test/measurement equipment to include but not limited to Blade Blending, Rigid Borescope, Flexible Borescope w/measuring capabilities, Test Cell Operations, In Process Inspection, Bearing handling, etc.
DUTY 4:
Enforces and complies with safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. Strictly adheres to safety procedures and regulations and promptly reports any observed or identified violations in accordance with established guidelines. Promptly halts activities where unsafe actions are taken and reports accidents, injuries and/or safety violations to the supervisor.
Uses and ensures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing, to meet all applicable bio-environmental standards. Follows federal, state, and local requirements when storing, using, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards. DUTY 5:
Certify, utilize and enforce the work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program and applicable commercial aircraft/propulsion manuals. Analyze changes to the guidelines, as well as maintenance modification orders, to determine material, equipment and personnel needs and to perform technical reviews of the guidelines, to locate discrepancies or propose improvements to methods or specifications. Collaborate with System Program Office (SPO)/engineering on technical procedures not published in established manuals.
