Location: Warden

A day in the life

You start your shift in the railcar shop, team huddle done and safety checks complete. You’ll shadow an experienced technician while you learn the ropes of stick welding, help stage materials for repairs, and rotate through core tasks that build your confidence and speed. As the day progresses, you’ll move from assisting to performing supervised welding passes, use mechanical hand tools and shop equipment, and handle routine maintenance around the facility.

What you’ll do Learn the fundamentals of stick welding and apply them in controlled, supervised settings.

Assist with general rail car repair operations and car shop upkeep.

Support material handling during repair work and organize parts for jobs.

Operate shop equipment and a wide range of mechanical hand tools.

Perform basic cutting and welding; complete limited welds under close supervision.

Remove and replace uncoupling levers.

Dismantle and remove couplers as directed.

Remove and replace brake levers.

Jack rail cars safely according to procedures.

Participate in supervised truck (bogie) repairs.

Remove and update AEI tags.

Carry out routine maintenance tasks throughout the shop.

Develop core railcar repair skills through hands-on, on-the-job experience.

Work toward certifying rail car welding positions (1G Flat and 2G Horizontal).Schedule & employment details

Preferred: 1+ year mechanic experience

Preferred: 1+ year experience with hand tools

Preferred: 1+ year MIG welding experience

Preferred: 1+ year brake repair experience
