Position Summary
The Class C Lineman Transmission is an entry level lineman position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position works at various locations and may require travel to other states depending on customer demands.
Essential Functions- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized transmission work.
- Stringing overhead wire.
- Setting poles and anchors.
- Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
- Perform all other related work as required to complete the job.
- Be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
- Perform rigorous physical labor.
- Learn transmission voltages on a circuit.
- Be familiar with induced voltage.
- Set a pole safely.
- Read blueprints.
- Inspect and recognize structural problems.
- Work productively from an aerial device.
- Assist with troubleshooting.
- Work alone on de-energized lines.
- Understand wire stringing techniques.
- Understand how to sag wire from structure or bucket.
- Assist with assembly and erect towers to all heights.
- Work from an aerial ladder to catch off and clip in.
- Frame and set basic line structures.
- Frame a de-energized pole structure in the air.
- Install all types of compression connections.
- Work at heights and/or confined spaces.
- Properly install and remove PPE and cover up.
- Inspect rubber goods, covers and PPE.
- Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools.
- Tie various lineman knots.
- Use a hand line.
- Understand grounding procedures.
- Know proper equipment set‑up and grounding procedures.
- Use Kellum grips when appropriate.
- Identify different types of materials used in line work.
- Understand minimum approach distance.
- Apply flag and tag procedures.
- Perform basic bucket rescue/escape.
- 1‑year minimum of field experience.
- Read and communicate effectively in English.
- Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
- Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
- Travel long distances on short notice when required.
- Work for extended periods in various locations when required.
- Lift in excess of 50 lbs.
- Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly.
- Willing to work overtime when requested.
- Willingness to glove/work live high voltage transmission lines.
- Work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work). The employee may be subject to one or more of the following atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
