Maintenance Mechanic 3 - Lead (Building Maintenance)

Location: Camp Murray, WA.

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Mechanic 4 in the West Region of the State Maintenance and Support Services (SMSS) Branch, a part of the Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO), this position is responsible for providing skilled, journey‑level functions associated with assigned work efforts for CFMO‑related facilities, systems, and equipment located on Camp Murray and Joint Base Lewis McChord, and for leading maintenance mechanic teammates.

• Journey-level work to accomplish completion of assigned maintenance, repair, and non‑repair efforts.
• Lead maintenance personnel in the accomplishment of assigned tasks.
• Journey-level work to accomplish preventative maintenance efforts.
• Assist grounds and custodial crews.

• Two years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic 2.
• or
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade.
  • One year of experience as a journey‑level worker in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or building repair work.

• Leading others in maintenance, repair, and non‑repair efforts.
• Journey-level understanding of maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.

• Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used for preventative maintenance, repair efforts, and inventory.
• Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building trades.
• Basic safety, building, environmental, and construction codes and regulations.

• Read plans and blueprints for buildings, infrastructure systems, equipment, etc.
• Consult with supervisors and make recommendations about repairs/remodeling work needed.
• Actively demonstrate a commitment to learning and growth.
• Demonstrate a willingness to understand and meet the needs of others.
• Operate standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, scanner, etc.).

• Must successfully complete the required background investigation and obtain/maintain a DoD Secret‑level security clearance.
• Union shop provision: position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA).
• Driver’s license: valid to drive in the State of Washington, meet REAL .
• Military facility: willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation.

  options include Tuesday‑Friday (4/10 schedule), Monday‑Thursday (4/10 schedule), or Monday‑Friday (5/8 schedule). Hours start no earlier than 6:00 am and end no later than 6:00 pm, with core business hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
• Telework: not eligible for telework.
• Emergency assignment: may be required to work in an alternate location with rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings.
• Travel: occasional statewide travel up to 5% may be required, including overnight stays.
