Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic

Job Summary
We are hiring a journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic for the Solid Waste Division of the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP). This role involves repairing and maintaining all light and heavy‑duty vehicles and equipment used in landfill and transfer station operations.

Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair gas, diesel, electric, and hybrid‑powered vehicles and equipment (light and heavy‑duty trucks, backhoes, dozers, street sweepers, loaders, and refuse trailers).
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and replace ignition systems, fuel systems, lighting systems, electrical/computer control systems, and ABS brake systems.
- Maintain and document service, maintenance, repair records, and work orders.
- Provide technical assistance, resolve problems with work orders, and advise on complex or unusual projects.
- Read and interpret manuals, electrical schematics, and illustrated parts diagrams.
- Use a Windows‑based program to track all work performed and retrieve information about work to be performed.
- A minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Journey Level Mechanic in heavy‑diesel vehicles and construction equipment, and medium and light‑duty vehicle repair and maintenance.
OR - Two (2) years of experience as a Journey Level Mechanic in heavy‑diesel vehicle and construction equipment or automotive repair and maintenance plus completion of a two‑year vocational, military, community college diesel automotive mechanics program or an accredited, state‑approved apprenticeship program.
OR - Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge and skill to perform the work of the position.
- Experience and knowledge of safe workplace practices.
- Knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Faster, and diagnostic software.

- Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with current Medical Card or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
Preferred: ASE Certification (Premium)

Schedule:
Multiple schedules include:
Mon‑Fri 0600‑2:30 pm;
Mon‑Fri 2:30‑11:00 pm;
Sun‑Wed 0600‑4:30 pm;
Wed‑Sat 0600‑4:30 pm

- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, crouch, and be in awkward positions e lifting may be required.
- Must be willing to work in an industrial site setting with dust, odor, high volume noise, and heavy traffic.
- FLSA status:
Overtime‑eligible.
