PRIMARY FUNCTION

Assist skilled craftsmen by performing supportive duties as directed and work under immediate supervision. Assist in planning, layout, installation, testing, and repair of all types of iron work, and any combination of duties to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural‑steel members to form completed structures or structural frameworks as a member of the crew.

TYPICAL DUTIES
  • Assemble and secure structural supports according to specifications
  • Practical knowledge of structural steel assembly and installation
  • Use hand tools to adjust and fasten steel beams
  • Lifting and moving heavy equipment and materials using proper mechanical equipment
  • Align bolt holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by driving drift pins or handle of wrench through holes
  • Attach loads using chains, slings, cables, hooks and other related equipment
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards
  • Perform all other job‑related duties as requested by supervision
  • Be familiar with crane/rigging hand signals
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of three (3) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/ or construction experience
  • Must follow company safety procedures and industry known best work practices
  • A general knowledge of basic hand tools
  • Must be able to pass craft proficiency testing at or above 70%
  • Completed the Matrix Service C-Stop Plus Safety training, Process Safety Management training and client/site specific training
  • Must obtain and maintain active status within the required drug testing program
  • Must pass a pre‑employment background check
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Employees will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting
  • Will talk and hear to communicate
  • Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls and tools
  • May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50 lbs
  • Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms; work at heights up to 300 ft using proper fall protection
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision
  • Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long periods of time up to 12 hours a day
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel‑toe boots
PAY RANGE

Washington law requires pay information in job postings. The typical hiring range for this position in Washington is shown below. The pay rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior experience, specific skill set, geographic location, internal equity, and other factors influencing pay. As such, the actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of this range, and in certain circumstances may fall outside the listed hiring range.

Hiring range: $25.00 - $29.00 per hour

Full range for this position, available over time: $29.00 per hour
