Job Overview

Temporary Washington State Park Aide positions offer outdoor work, physical activity, and the chance to contribute to the maintenance of a valued Parks system. Positions are available across several San Juan Area parks and may start in March, April, May, or June for 3–5 months.

Temporary housing is available at Moran, Lime Kiln Point, Spencer Spit, and Sucia Island. Housing is first‑come, first‑served and may be provided in bunkhouse or cabin style. RV or trailer accommodations are also an option for select locations.

Positions typically require 40 hours/week. Less‑than‑full‑time work may be offered on a period‑by‑period basis.

• Maintain park facilities through routine maintenance and janitorial services.
• Maintain marine environment facilities, including docks, moorage buoys, and compost toilet systems.
• Operate vessels up to 21‑foot in length and safely navigate waterways using GPS and tide charts.
• Provide water, boater, marine animal, and vegetation safety information to visitors and answer phones.
• Perform grounds maintenance: mowing, weeding, pruning, raking, and litter removal.
• Register campers, collect fees, and handle revenue preparation and deposits.
• Collect daily garbage and conduct litter control.
• Clean restrooms and stock cleaning supplies.
• Maintain rental properties and perform general housekeeping duties.
• Transport supplies and equipment within the park area in a light truck or other designated vehicle.

Must Must:

• Must be at least 17 years old.
• Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license. Out‑of‑state license must be presented at interview.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with vessel operations.
• Completion of the Washington State Boaters Safety Course.
• Bilingual skills, preferably Spanish.

• Must work Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
• Must work extended periods of mandatory physical labor.

Must wear mandatory non‑permanent uniforms, which include two shirts, one baseball cap, and mandatory clothing stipend of $75 per year (eligible for $150 stipend for longer positions). Mandatory clothing must include protective gear such as boots, rainwear, and special safety clothing as required.
