About the RoleThe Electronics Technician L2 performs service, maintenance and support work with minimal supervision while providing guidance to junior technicians. The Level 2 Technician is developing into a Subject Matter Expert across a range of communications technologies.
Skills and Experience- Education: A recognised trade qualification, Certificate III in Electronics and Communication (UEE
30911), Communications Technology, or Telecommunications Engineering - Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience with maintaining telecommunication equipment
- Familiar with Internet Protocol (IP) networking
- Good experience with antenna systems and multi coupling systems
- Good experience with digital (TETRA, P25, DMR), analogue radio systems and microwave links
- Ability to fault find to a component level
- Ability to read complex circuit diagrams and cable schedules
- Sound judgement to make appropriate decisions with limited direction at times
- Ability to learn in a rapidly changing technological environment
- Good safety knowledge with a commitment to safe working practices
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong understanding of RF connectors, coaxial cable types, impedance, cable losses and correct installation practices
- Competent in testing and certifying coaxial, fibre optic and Ethernet cabling using appropriate test equipment
- Knowledge of Ethernet cabling standards (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A), structured cabling and Power over Ethernet (PoE)
- Ability to test and certify Ethernet cabling using cable analysers and network test equipment
- Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively liaise with others
- Able to work well alone without supervision and collaboratively in a team environment
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Eligibility to work in Australia
- Current C-Class Driver’s Licence.
- Recent national police history check
- Undertakes all activities in line with Radlink HSEQ Policy – reports all near misses, incidents according to the procedures, promptly and clearly with all the required detail
- Is part of the On-Call roster and can complete on-call duties with limited direction
- Ensure all tasks assigned by the leading hand are completed safely and in a timely fashion
- Prepare quotes for assigned service work
- Competently carry out service restorations
- Install and terminate RF connectors, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Conduct RF cable testing including VSWR, Return Loss, Distance to Fault (DTF), cable loss, insertion loss and continuity using a Site Master or equivalent test equipment.
- Test and certify Ethernet cabling including wire mapping, cable length verification, continuity and network performance testing.
- Interpret test results, identify faults and complete corrective actions where required.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring and on-the-job training to junior technicians.
- Implements appropriate service restoration actions and escalates technical issues to Radlink senior technical staff or management as required
- Perform preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance activities and project works as required
- Assist with commissioning new communications systems under the direction of senior technical staff.
- Take on additional responsibilities or higher duties as required from time to time, within the scope of the individuals’ capabilities
- Support management in contributing to a zero-harm safety culture through compliance with standards and guidelines
- Help maintain a culture which encourages teamwork and collaboration
- Provide written and verbal reports to Radlink management as required
- Undertakes a range of administrative work as required
- Liaise with clients, vendors and suppliers
- Other duties as requested by Management, within the scope of employees capabilities
