Mechanical Fitter / Workshop Leading Hand
We are seeking an experienced, practical and self-motivated Mechanical Fitter, Mechanic or Workshop Leading Hand to join our growing family-owned business where initiative and performance are recognised.
OverviewThe role involves the mechanical assembly and construction of transportable electrical switch rooms, skids/kiosks and associated equipment. This is a hands-on position for someone who works efficiently, takes pride in quality and can identify what needs to be done without constant supervision. There is genuine opportunity to progress into a Leading Hand / Supervisor position for the right candidate. This is a permanent full-time position with Monday to Friday 6:30am – 3:00pm.
Responsibilities- Assemble structural steel and associated mechanical components.
- Install brackets, supports, flooring, wall panels, doors, cladding and flashings.
- Drilling, tapping, bolting, riveting, fastening and sealing.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment.
- Read drawings, take measurements and check alignment and fit-up.
- Identify problems early and provide practical solutions / installation methods.
- Assist with lifting, jacking, positioning and movement of large structures.
- Support and guide less-experienced team members and contract labour.
- Assist wherever required to help complete projects safely, on time and to a high standard.
You will ideally have:
- Experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Automotive Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Fabricator, Sheet Metal Worker or similar trade.
- Strong mechanical assembly and problem-solving skills.
- Extensive experience with hand tools and power tools.
- A strong focus on speed, productivity and quality.
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of your work.
- A reliable, practical and positive attitude.
- Leadership potential and the confidence to guide others.
- A willingness to learn and assist outside your usual duties when required.
The role is based in a new, well-equipped workshop with:
- Hydraulic jacking systems
- Experience with cranes, forklifts, rigging, or heavy structures will be highly regarded.
- A mechanical fitting, automotive, heavy-diesel, fabrication or related trade qualification is preferred.
- Forklift, dogging, rigging, EWP, White Card and relevant workshop or modular-construction experience will also be highly regarded.
- Practical experience and demonstrated capability may be considered in place of formal qualifications.
