COUNTY ROAD SHOP FOREMAN MECHANIC

APPRENTICESHIP OPTION

Columbia County Public Works is seeking to hire an entry level to advanced Shop Foreman/Mechanic. This position will be responsible for the planning, scheduling, directing, and evaluating of the repair and servicing of County maintenance equipment and vehicles.

Required to have a significant understanding of road maintenance equipment systems, electrical and mechanical testing equipment, diagnostic tools, computer application, and a variety of hand, power, and shop tools.

Applicants are not required to have a current Washington Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A with endorsement N; however, new hires are required to obtain a CDL through the County’s CDL training program within their probationary period, which may be up to a year. Preference will be given to applicants who have a Washington Class A CDL with an applicators license.

Columbia County is open to an apprenticeship Mechanic. The individual must be motivated and willing to work alongside an experienced Mechanic to learn the ins and outs of fleet maintenance and repair. This hands‑on position will provide you with the opportunity to develop valuable skills and knowledge in a dynamic work environment. This position will work up to the Shop Foreman/Mechanic.

This is a bargaining unit position. Wages for this position range from $29.20 to $30.99 depending on qualifications and experience. Applicants who have work experience with other municipal entities may be placed in a higher pay range at the discretion of the employer. New employees are subject to a minimum of 6 months and up to a year probationary period. Position includes a competitive benefit package.
