TheOpportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 3 to provide journey-level maintenance and repair services for seven Safety Rest Area sites and buildings within the Eastern Region Area
3. This position performs preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on mechanical and plumbing equipment, building structures, and water and sewer systems to keep facilities safe and operational. This Maintenance Mechanic also supports the maintenance and repair of seven maintenance sheds and associated support buildings and sites in coordination with Eastern Region Facilities. Through effective communication and coordination with internal and external partners, this position helps ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of WSDOT facilities.
to Expect
This position performs work that is often physical in nature, primarily outdoors, and often next to high-volume, high-speed traffic that may require standing for extended periods of time. Maintenance Mechanics may work at elevated heights above 25 feet over land or water. Work may also include traversing in rough, steep, and uneven terrain in varying weather conditions. A typical schedule is 40-hours per week for four (4) 10-hour shifts.
Nights, weekends, and holidays may also be required to respond to emergency situations.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will:
- Perform journey-level plumbing work for the Eastern Region rest area operations.
- Read blueprints, estimate time, materials, equipment, and submit formal test results as required by local code enforcement for these projects.
- Install, repair, trouble shoot and perform preventative maintenance on plumbing (supply and waste).
- Perform backflow testing, repairs and replacements, landscape maintenance, landscape irrigation maintenance, vegetation control and lawn mowing.
- Provide building maintenance, including painting, replacing drywall, and repairing flooring, framing, tile, and doors.
- Perform diagnostics, maintenance, replacement, and preventive maintenance of water supply and well systems.
- Clean and perform other custodial duties, which may include handling of hazardous substances, hazardous objects, and possible blood borne pathogens.
- Perform maintenance and minor repair on equipment and hand tools, including sharpening power saws and chains, cleaning around the shed, washing vehicles, and greasing tools and equipment.
- Perform snow and ice control, including snow plowing and application of anti-icing compounds and abrasives to road surface with truck mounted equipment.
This is a Maintenance Mechanic 3 position. However, the hiring manager reserves the right to fill the position at a lower level in the classification series based on candidate qualifications, providing an opportunity for an individual to gain the required experience on the job as part of a formal “in-training” plan.
