Basic Functions

This is a non‑exempt position. Provides professional social work services to children and families. Provides psychosocial assessments and diagnosis of behavioral disabilities to offer treatments and/or environmental manipulations at the school, home, and community‑based settings.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, or psychology and two (2) years experience in social work.
  • Or a trainee applicant who will sign and abide by a training plan to meet the minimum requirements of the position within twenty‑four months of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license and eligibility for Tribal Insurance; must maintain clearance throughout employment.
  • Foster Parent Licensor Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of mandatory Social Work Academy within 90 days of employment.
  • Must not have been a client of Children & Family Services for the past three years nor become one during employment.
  • Maintain a healthy, alcohol‑ and drug‑abuse‑free lifestyle for the past three years and continue throughout employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Specialized knowledge of social work principles, counseling, and modern techniques such as family systems, ecological perspectives, school systems, and mental health.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills across all age groups.
  • Proficiency with personal computers, office productivity software, internet, and computer‑aided programs supporting education.
  • Mathematical skills sufficient to read and understand statistical concepts.
  • Professional level writing for case management materials and reports.
  • Strong oral communication skills for individual and group counseling, home, and community settings.
  • Ability to deliver therapeutic, advisory, and counseling services.
  • Knowledge of District, State, and Federal requirements for academic achievement.
  • Capability to explore alternatives for children and families, identify crises and provide intervention.
  • Skill in conducting socio‑environmental analysis and preparing social and family histories.
  • Ability to design and develop behavioral and instructional objectives for students.
  • Cooperative working relationships with teachers, personnel service providers, families, and agencies.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time‑management skills.
  • Professional and confidential communication in formal and informal settings with children, teachers, staff, and parents.
  • Strict confidentiality of program matters, ensuring client and personnel rights are protected.
  • Collaboration with law enforcement agencies both on and off reservation boundaries.
  • Independent work capability and good judgement.
  • Client‑controlled, acting in the best interests of children at all times.
  • Conflict‑resolution skills and professional handling of complaints or problems.
  • Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships with co‑workers, clients, outside agencies, and Tribal Government.
  • Adaptability to school, home, and outside environments; primarily sedentary work nature.
  • Physical ability to move to work locations, grasp, reach, push, pull, and move lightweight materials.
  • Hand, finger, and eye dexterity for computer keyboard usage and reading screens.
  • Visual acuity for reading printed materials, computer screens, student assignments, and moving objects.
  • Capacity to work a non‑standard schedule, including before and after normal hours.
Drug & Background Testing

Pre‑employment drug testing is required if the position is safety‑sensitive. The position is also subject to reasonable suspicion and post‑accident drug testing. Background clearances may be required and must be maintained throughout employment.
