JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE VI COORDINATOR Purpose Statement

The job of Title VI Coordinator was established for the purpose/s of providing support tribal registered students and families. The overall goal is to provide support student success in relation to the instructional program , school engagement and graduation. The specific responsibilities are for overseeing student success by: conducting a yearly needs assessment with input from the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and developing instructional support programs for Native America students;

assisting with the conducting of District consultation with local Tribal Councils in support of developing district instructional programs; providing information on programs/services available to students and families as well as school and/or district activities and procedures; referring families to other agencies; and fostering an ongoing partnership between the tribes, parents, students and the school community .

This job reports to Assistant Superintendent

Functions

Assists in coordinating with community leaders and organizations for the purpose of building resources and expanding program capabilities to serve Tribal registered students and families .

Assists students, staff, teachers, parents and community members (e.g. applications for services, transporting parents/students, interpreting technical information, etc.) for the purpose of providing and/or conveying information regard ing services required by parents or teachers.

Conducts parent meetings for the purpose of gaining information and/or discussing programmatic needs and /or problem s involving students and their families.

Confers with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and/or implementing student objectives.

Coordinates home visits and parent meetings for the purpose of gaining information and/or discussing needs and problems involving students and their families.

Gathers data relative to student performance and meeting goals toward graduation.

Identifies at risk students for the purpose of providing support and referrals to ensure student progress and ongoing involvement of family members in the educational process.

Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g. activity logs, phone logs, community resources, Parent Resource Library, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities for the Title VI grant.

Organizes a variety of activities (e.g. parent meetings, conferences, training classes, etc.) for the purpose of providing support to the school and parents, showcasing students’ talents and abilities, and celebrating the diversity of the community.

Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining

knowledgeable with program guidelines.

Facilitates Parent Advisory Council meetings (at least three times a year).

Prepares a variety of documents, reports and written materials (e.g. registrations, activity logs, phone logs, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to parents, staff; providing written support, developing recommendations and/or conveying information.

Presents parenting classes for the purpose of providing information and guidance to families.

Refers students and their families to outside agencies (e.g. state agencies, medical professionals, counselors, foundations, charities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the need of students and families are met.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g. parents, students, teachers, staff, outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.

Transports students and families to medical/dental appointments, meetings, community services, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that participants receive needed services and/or promoting involvement in the educational process.

Visits families and students in their homes for the purpose of assessing situations, improving communication, providing information regarding school policies and programs, and/or providing referrals.

Work s irregular hours to attend meetings.

Work s independently.

Establish es and mainta i n s effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Communicate s clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
