Job Summary:
The Cross Country Coach is responsible for organizing and leading the high school cross country program at Soap Lake. This includes running practices, attending meets, and promoting personal growth, sportsmanship, and healthy habits among student-athletes. This position is volunteer-based unless six or more students actively participate, in which case it becomes a stipend-paid role.
Responsibilities:
● Plan and lead regular practices focused on conditioning, technique, and endurance.
● Supervise and motivate student-athletes during practices and meets
● Ensure student-athletes meet academic and eligibility requirements.
● Promote a team culture of respect, effort, and inclusivity.
● Coordinate meet schedules and transportation with the athletic department.
● Attend all district organized parent meetings, pre-season, award ceremonies
● Develop and run a kids program to build your program
● Communicate with students, families, and staff effectively.
● Follow all district, league, and WIAA rules and guidelines.
● Fundraising
- Gate, Concessions, Scoreboard and others
● Through knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Soap Lake School Board and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program
Qualifications:
● Experience in cross country, track, or endurance sports preferred.
● Ability to inspire and work with high school students in a supportive role.
● Must meet district and WIAA volunteer coaching requirements (e.g., background check, First Aid/CPR, concussion training).
● Commitment to promoting student wellness and achievement.
● Must pass a background check and be approved by the district
● Ability to monitor student athlete's grades and conduct
This position is not benefit eligible unless 630 hours is anticipated/reached in the school year
